Dwars in de weg
(area ± 80 hectares)
Dwars in de Weg is a flat sandbar, with creeping willows and sea buckthorn growing in some areas. There are grassy areas where various types of orchids and other plant types specific to the Grevelingen area grow, such as centaury and yellow wort. The eastern part is used as a camping area by the Dutch Scouts. Fjord horses graze year round on Dwars in de Weg.
The island’s name, loosely translated as ‘Right in the way’, comes from its location directly in front of the harbour entrance of the Brouwers Harbour. A mooring area is available for water sports.
